The Orchard is Blooming at Leyden Glen Farm
Hello Lamb Friends,
The biggest news from the farm is a fun one. Our family of three was featured on WRSI’s Local Hero Spotlight. You can listen to it here.
We had a successful lambing season with over 150 new lambs. Lambs are still being born. In fact, there were three born just this week in the field outside our farmhouse.
Farmer Mark has been busy moving sheep from the winter barns to the green fields. Timing is everything. He has to wait until the grass is long enough to feed and support the animals. Portable electric netting has to be set up and electrified with solar powered batteries to keep the predators out. Here is a view of some of the ewes on a field far above our farmhouse in Leyden.
We are back at the Amherst Farmers Market every Saturday from 7:30 to 1:30. Stop by and say hi and pick up some of our pasture raised lamb or some of Kristin’s handmade pottery and tea towels.
You can find many fantastic recipes for lamb on our website here. This one - Moroccan Lamb Stew with Apricots and Almonds - is a favorite at our house. Make up a double batch and put half of it in the freezer for an emergency dinner.
Wishing all the Moms who are reading a Happy Mother’s Day. Without you, the world would not go round.
Yours in good food,
Kristin and Mark
