Hello Lamb Friends:
So much going on here at Leyden Glen Farm. We made it through a long, very cold winter. Lots of new lambs arrived. And they are still coming. These little guys were born just this week to first time mamas who decided they weren’t up to the job. Now their care is up to the Farmer. They will be fed by a bottle for about six weeks. As you can see, they are looking for a mama and hoping that Pretzel might have some milk to share with them. Instinct runs deep.
It’s spring and per usual, there’s been multiple sheep escapes. They are tired of hay and craving salad greens. As the saying goes….. the grass is always greener on the other side of the road.
Our new Border Collie Annie has been helping get them back where they belong. It’s not that she is well trained. She’s got talent and hopefully this summer we’ll get her fine tuned. Honest truth is all she has to do is show up on a long leash and the sheep know freedom is over. Back across the road they go until the next time.
We will be at the Amherst Farmers Market Saturday from 8 to 1:30. Stop on by and pick up some lamb to share with your Mom on Mother’s Day. It’s Rhubarb Season and time to break out the annual and quite delicious Persian Lamb and Rhubarb Stew Recipe.
It’s been a wet cold spring. That said, the daffodils have been amazing this year. I can’t remember a season like this one. I”ve been picking lots and bringing them in the house to fill my pottery vases and jugs.
I’ll have some new pots and tea towels with me tomorrow if you need a gift or want to treat yourself. Stop on by the market. There are lots of new vendor faces and old favorites too.
Happy Mother’s Day to all.
From your shepherds,
Kristin and Mark
