Hello Colorful Friends:
I’ve got excellent news for you all - at least those of you who have been begging us for Lamb Sausage. Well….. it’s back. Stop by the Amherst Farmers Market on Saturday from 8 to 1:30 and I will be able to set you up.
Then - go home and whip up a pot of this delicious Caldo Verde - aka Portuguese Potato, Kale, and Sausage Soup. It’s super easy and really tasty and perfect for the upcoming chillier fall days. Here’s the link to the recipe.
Besides Lamb Sausage, we also have some big, beautiful Bone-In Legs for holiday meals. I also got some Boneless Half Legs that are perfect for smaller celebrations. If you would like to reserve one - please call or text me at 413-325-5718. (I leave for the market at 6:30 a.m. so communication tonight is better!) You can either pick it up here in Leyden or at the Amherst market over the next 3 weeks.
There are only three weeks left for the Saturday Amherst Farmers Market. After that, our lamb will be available at our farm store here in Leyden. It’s a self-serve store and you’ll find all the cuts in the upright freezer at the back of the “store” on the left side of our barn.
In sheep news, Mark has been gathering the various groups of sheep and moving them back to fields near the winter barns in Bernardston. In a couple weeks, our sheep shearers Kevin Ford and Gwen Hinman will be coming to harvest the wool. We will be selling it to Bloom Woolen Yarns who will be processing it into a yarn they call Babe.
In my last newsletter, I shared our new Border Collie Annie’s wild and wacky “training” video. She has made progress with her skills. Although there is still a long way to go, here she is working one evening.
The large white dog you see in the video is Elsa, one of our Great Pyrenees Guard Dogs. Elsa lives with the sheep keeping them safe from coyotes. Every evening, all four of our dogs - Beau, Elsa, Annie and Pretzel go crazy barking at the coyotes who are yipping and howling in the distance. It’s quite the symphony of noise.
That’s it for today. Hope to see you at the Amherst Farmers Market tomorrow or here at the farm. I’ll have some new small pieces of pottery with me too. And remember the sausage!
We thank you for your support of our farm and family!
Your shepherds,
Kristin and Mark
